Those with foreign financial accounts now have longer to file FBARs. A 2015 law changed the due date for filing FinCEN Form 114, “Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts,” to April 15 of the following year, with a 6 month extension allowed. The due date was previously June 30 of the next year (no extension). FinCEN announced it is granting an automatic extension to Oct. 15 with no specific extension request required. Note: The due date for 2016 filings is April 18, 2017, with an extension to Oct. 16, because the normal due dates fall on weekends or holidays.
